Why is Kelli running?

I have always been somewhat of a runner since I was a little girl. My first race I ever ran was a 3 mile road race on the 4th of July when I was 9 years old. I don’t know why, but I just always liked to run. Now that I am older, I enjoy running because it’s not only a great way to keep in shape, but it also helps me relieve stress and clear my head.
A few years ago, I injured my knees playing soccer. After 2 ACL replacement surgeries, my doctor asked me what my “physical” goals were. I told him, I didn’t mind if I didn’t play soccer again, but I would really love to run the Boston Marathon someday. He laughed at me and said that this probably wouldn’t happen, nor should it. That is when I decided I would run the Boston Marathon. So about 5 years later, I ran my first marathon (2002), and have been running them ever since. I have only done the Boston Marathon because you just can’t beat that crowd….they are the one’s that carry me through the entire race!
I want to run for Children’sHospital for so many reasons. For starters, it is the place that I received my “new knees” that I have been running on for years. But more importantly, I am a nurse there. I work on the Bone Marrow Transplant floor, and see the bravest, strongest kids running their own marathons every day. There are some days that I leave work wishing I could do more, so I thought that running for Children’s Hospital and honoring one of those brave and amazing kids (Andy), would be the “little more” that I could do. In years past, I have never run for Children’s Hospital, but the kids that I haved cared for, have always run with me… I think of them throughout the entire race.
