I participated today @ the HST 180. HST stands for Health Sciences and Technology, a joint program between Harvard Medical School and MIT for both graduate and medical students.
The topics discussed in the class cover a broad spectrum of medical conditions in which the underlying genetic causes are known. The genetics for each disorder are reviewed by the class, and the corresponding diagnostic tools, therapies, courses of treatment, lifestyle implications, and societal underpinnings are discussed.
About 20 or so students enroll in the class.
The interview is meant to provide students with insight into the practical aspects of diagnosis and treatment, how patients evaluate the medical community, and how the medical condition has affected lifestyle and family.
And it was a great experience!
